About Steel Sharks

Realm of the Steel Sharks

We are an SH3 gaming community that plays the dynamic campaign along with online Multiplayer. We are a group of people from the worldwide community  that play for the fun of the game and for the friendships that we develop. Below you will find the rules of the league and how we play the league.

HOW WE PLAY
The SSL plays with the regular SH3 patched to 1.4, along with the GWX GOLD 3.0 MOD. We also play with SH3 commander latest version and the jsgme mod as our primary MODS the sh3 commander mod is required to play in the league. Also required are our Campaign mod files that are given to each player to install into their game, along with other mods listed below. These special files are required so that each player can see scripted convoys when you play your campaign. This allows every player to see the same thing so that U-boats can be vectored in for a “Wolf pack attack”. This is where the Multiplayer aspect comes in. Once all the boats in range have found the convoy, the shadowing boat relays the information to his FC and this information is given to our Mission writers, who then make an on line mission that is sent via email to the lead boat in tactical command. That player gets his wolf pack together,  schedules a time for everyone to play on line and play out the mission. The results of the MP mission convoy attack are sent to the FC and results and a “news” posting is made. Once the convoy attack is over everyone goes back to their own campaign game.

HOW TO GET STARTEDnight raftt resize
First off you will register on the forums – once approved  you become a member of the Steel Sharks League. Then you pick a Commanders name and which Flotilla you will be part of. Then a U-boat number and type will be assigned to you to assume command of. Once all Game files that are required for play are loaded on your computer and tested, then you will post in the forums to your FC that you are ready for duty. You will receive a reply on what war date and patrol grid you will need to input into SH3 commander. Then you watch the war date, which is our “game Clock”, and you will launch your patrol when you are scheduled to sail.  Its really a lot easier than it may sound.

MODS WE PLAY WITH

Currently we play with 3 different mods they are:

  1. GWX GOLD 3.0

  2. SH3 COMMANDER MOD 3.2

  3. STEEL SHARKS CAMPAIGN FILES: this is our crown jewel and allows us to do Multiplayer along with the single player campaign. These files allow everyone to see the same thing, which makes vectoring in boats to a single location possible.  In the game Convoys and single shipping is random.

  4. THE CAMPAIGN HAS BEEN FULLLY REWRITEN. IT TAKES OUR CAMPAIGN WRITER 6 MONTHS OF RESEARCH TO WRITE 3 MONTHS OF CAMPAIGN DATA. PLUS IT IS HISTORICALLY CORRECT.

    • THE RANDOM CONVOYS THAT ARE IN THE OUTA BOX CAMPAIGN RANDOM LAYER HAVE BEEN REMOVED & 70% OF THE RANDOM LAYER SINGLE SHIPPING.

SH3 COMMANDER latest version: This Jones Sof mod is a standard that most SH3 gamers have used for awhile now. This Mod allows us to lengthen or shorten the time between patrols and allows other aspects of SH3 game management.

RULES:
Once you have all files installed and tested, your FC will issue orders with a grid number for you to input into your SH3 commander. You monitor the War date, which shows the real day that matches the war date in the campaign. This is the game clock so to speak. When you play the campaign, stay as close to the war date as you can. However it’s better to be a bit behind than ahead of the war date. Why??? You ask…. because when another boat spots a convoy in the campaign and you try to vector in it is MUCH easier to catch up to that convoys date position than to try to predict where it will be in the future. So if possible stay at or a bit behind in the war date and you’ll never have to consult the tea leaves where that convoy might be.

medalOnce the war date comes up you start a Patrol through SH3 commander and play the campaign as a single player. You will have a radio log in our forums that you will post your progress every 48 hours or so which includes your position, Ammo left Weather conditions and your fuel status also included are any single shipping you sunk with information about that ship. If a convoy is spotted you will through radio reports help vector in or to be vectored in so that you see the same convoy as the other players. Then as mentioned above a MP game is done and results are posted. Then you go back and continue to play your single player campaign. Once your patrol is over you’ll return to port and File an end of patrol report or KTB, which is a summary of your patrol. Once done if you have the renown and permission of your FC you can make upgrades to your boat as they become available. Then new orders will come down from BDU, days will be input into commander which will have you sailing when BDU wants you to at a future date.

If you get killed in the single player campaign or Multilayer game you just pick a new commanders name and boat, then you start again. In between patrols you can play our on line missions, so there is always something to do.  We keep the monthly scores to see who is TopDog for the month.

We understand that this is a game and that RL comes first. All we ask from you is to contact your FC of what is going on and we would be happy to work with you. PLEASE don’t just disappear!!!

WE are proud to say we are the ONLY league playing SH3 that combines single player and Multilayer in one package. We hope you will join us and play with us soon!!!!
